Wood Waterproofer

I bet you wonder what this article is about!  Well here it is. . . we were extra concerned about whether the horizontal pine wood covering the top of the grow bag tables and and the horizontal cedar trim on the elevated garden beds and the raised garden beds would last many snow and rainy seasons in Pennsylvania.

I decided to search the web to find something plant and people friendly that I could use to protect the horizontal wood.  I decided to try Eco Advance Exterior Wood Waterproofer which fit my criteria!  I bought it on Amazon because I couldn’t find a store that sold it locally.

With Eco Advance you put one coat on and then apply another within half an hour.   While they encourage people to use a sprayer to apply, I used a roller after reading the reviews.   I wanted to do the grow bag tables in the garage so I didn’t want to get the product everywhere.  Since I did the garden beds outside, I also didn’t want to drip the waterproofer on the soil.

If you look at the picture, I was successful because the rain beaded on the top of the grow bag tables.  I thought this product worked better on the pine vs. the cedar.  The reason might be because it was getting cooler when I applied it to the trim on the garden beds which were outside.  When applying you have to make sure that the temperature is not below 35°F and that it will not fall below freezing within 24 hours after application.  Next time we get a warm spell, I think I will put another two coats on the trim.

Overall, I am pleased with my selection!
