Straight Eight on the Right

Straight Eight Cucumbers remind me of the typical cucumber that you buy in the grocery store but taste so much better fresh.  The name is very basic since it means that this cucumber grows “straight” up to “eight” inches long!

I got these seeds from Botanical Interests.  The seed packet recommends growing the seeds in mounds that are four feet apart.  You should plant several seeds and thin the seedlings to 3 per mound.  Since I used a trellis, I planted them in a small long  mound at the base of the trellis.  I would suggest spacing them 6 to 8 inches apart because they like some breathing room. While the Straight Eights are green, not all cucumbers are the same color.  Check out the Lemon Cucumbers.
