While we always see sparrows, this is the first year that we saw a White-Crowned Sparrow.
Appearance: The males and females are like a brown sparrow with a grey chest and a black and white striped cap. The beak is pinkish.
Feeding Habits:  White-Crowned Sparrows like insects, seeds and berries. They prefer eating from ground feeders.
Nesting Habits:Â Â Their nests are in the shape of a cup.
Migration:  White-Crowned sparrows like to stay in Pittsburgh during the winter. If I was them, I would keep going south! Keep an eye out for them between September and April.  I saw this one in the Spring.
