Common Grackle

I think Common Grackles are good looking birds but they are a nuisance!  They love to harass the smaller birds.

Appearance:  The male has an iridescent blue head, a dark brown black body, a long black tail and beak and yellow eyes..  The female looks like the male but is duller and smaller.

Feeding Habits:  While Grackles prefer to feed off the ground, they will dominate bird feeders especially if you put out peanuts and sunflower chips. They also like fruit and insects.

Nesting Habits:  Common Grackles build nests in the shape of a cup.

Migration:   These Grackles will stay year-round in PA but will eventually move on.  I’ve noticed that the Common Grackles come back in March and stick around until mid summer in my yard.
