Sow and Grow Blueberries

Sow and Grow Blueberries

While I plant (not sow) blueberry bushes we are still including blueberries in the sow and grow section!

Outdoor Planting Tips:  1) Just like raspberries, decide where you want the blueberry plants to grow in advance.  If not,  you may stunt their growth for at least a year.  2) Dig a hole bigger than the root ball.  3) I planted my blueberry plants in the spring when the plants were available.  4) Make sure you give blueberry plants the right amount of space. 5) Blueberries prefer full sun.

Growing Tips:    6) Blueberries like consistent moisture during berry season and good drainage. 7) Blueberry plants are acid loving plants so I use Holly-tone from Espoma.  8) While people love berries, so do birds, deer and others!  I use deer netting to deter deer and silver reflective ribbon to deter birds.  9)  Blueberry plants enjoy some mulch to keep the the roots cool and to deter weeds from the base of the plants.  10)  Prune the old canes with no new growth.  Pruning is important so all the plant energy is going to the fruit not the dead wood.
