While I like to grow onions from seeds for more variety choices, you can always grow them from onion sets. I planted the Snowball Onion Sets this spring and had a nice harvest in July. The photo above shows two at different stages of curing.
Features:
- Even if you grow these onions from sets, this onion is open pollinated so you could save the seeds if you wanted.
- Snowball onions take 80 days to mature.
- These globe shaped bulbs grow uniformly between 3 and 4 inches in diameter and have a flat bottom.
- Of course, you know what color these onions are by the name “snowball”.
- Snowball onions are disease resistant.
- They are considered long day onions which are good for storage.
- Also, they have a mild sweet flavor.
