Peruvian Lilies

The formal name for Peruvian Lilies is Alstroemeria.  While these flowers look delicate, they are great for cut flowers.

Features:

1) Peruvian Lilies come in quite a few color options such as red, pink, yellow, orange, purple and white.

2) They enjoy consistent moisture.

3) While Peruvian Lilies are annuals in Pittsburgh, they are perennials in zones 7 through 11.

4) If you plant them in a location where they are annuals, you can always dig up the rhizomes in the fall and replant in the spring.

5) If you plant them in a location where they are perennials, they may be too invasive for you.  If that’s the case, you can always plant them in a container.

6) As noted above, Peruvian Lilies last long in a vase as a cut flower.

7) They bloom in the summer.

8) Peruvian Lilies like well drained soil that is slightly acidic.

9) Pollinators like the colors of the flowers and the trumpet shape.
