Compared to some of the other varieties I am growing, Italian Red garlic has a milder (or less spicy) flavor. This variety will typically store up to 6 months.
Each Italian Red bulb has up to 9 large cloves. You will see nice streaks of red and purple around the cloves. Italian Red Garlic is a hardneck type in the purple stripe family which originates from Italy. Don’t get confused with the Early Italian Red which is different then this variety.
I planted 7 cloves of Italian Red which I purchased from Enon Valley Garlic.
If you missed my post on Chesnok Red garlic, just click on the link. I have one more variety to talk about so stay tuned.
