Garden Plan for Sweet Peppers

It’s been a few months since I shared what I was putting in my elevated raised beds.  It’s time to finish up my square foot gardening plans!

Just like my hot pepper bed, the sweet pepper bed is 2 feet by 8 feet.  Also, I am growing 4 plants of my favorite 4 sweet peppers which include sweet apple (these seeds were handed down to me from my cuz-in-law), sweet banana, jimmy nardello and shishito peppers.  I like all of these pepper for different reasons!

Just like the hot peppers, I like to grow them in the same bed.  If the aphids are bad when I first plant them in mid to late May, I can protect the sweet peppers with hoops and lightweight fabric.  Also, pepper plants can be planted every 12 inches in square foot gardening.

In the spring before transplanting the sweet peppers, you can grow a fast growing plant like Chinese cabbage, bok choy or spinach in the squares or scallions, gourmet small carrots and radishes in the grid lines.

Planning is so important to get the most out of your garden!  I have only one perennial elevated raised bed dedicated to berries – raspberries and strawberries.
