If you’ve been following Crazy for Gardening for a while, you know I like to use fall leaves in my raised beds as Leaf Mold which does wonders for soil fertility. Check out the link.
There are other important reasons to pick up your leaves:
1) You don’t want to tick off your neighbors! There is always that one neighbor who doesn’t rake or scoop their leaves up with their lawnmower. It is usually the neighbor with the biggest tree!
2) Alan scoops up the leaves and mulches them with our riding lawnmower which definitely helps to decompose them faster for leaf mold in my veggie garden.
3) Most importantly, I recently received a press release from PGH2O which is the Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority with another important reason. Leaves and other pollutants can be swept away during a rain storm which can clog storm drains and cause flooding. We definitely don’t want to cause flooding when we can put those leaves to better use!
I will post the press release today on my Crazy for Gardening Facebook Page.
