Ever Blooming Daylilies

IMG_8446

We love lilies and daylilies, but some types just don’t last long.  The lily is known as a Lilium and is a bulb that can be planted in the fall or spring, and will bloom year after year. The daylily is know as a Hemerocallis and is a perennial.   Lilies have long stems  which grow leaves and flowers and daylilies have grasslike leaves with scapes bearing flowers.

A few weeks ago, I bought two daylily plants called Happy Ever Appster Daylilies (happyeverappster.com).  I think the name “Appster” is a combo of the daylily breeder,  Dr.  Apps and Happy Easter!

The variety of daylily that I picked is called Rosy Returns.  There’s a total of 12 varieties including:  Apricot Sparkles, Big Time Happy, Dynamite Returns, Happy Returns, Just Plum Happy, Red Hot Returns, Romantic Returns, Rosy Returns, Scentual Sundance, Stephanie Returns, Sunset Returns, and When My Sweetheart Returns.  These varieties consist of various shades of yellow, apricot and pink.

The flowers are 3 inches wide and the plant will reach 16 inches tall.  They are hardy in zones 3 through 8.  They prefer sun and water.  They are expected to bloom from summer to fall.  I will let you know how long my daylilies bloom.
