The Showy Pink Primrose is a perennial that has a pale pink flower and a pale yellow middle.   It really isn’t a rose, but it looks nice around my rose bush!  The butterflies and hummingbirds really love this flower too.

Once the plant is established, it will tolerate drier conditions. I planted it along my driveway as a border plant.  In this same bed, I have my hydrangea so the primroses end up getting water because the hydrangea enjoy lots of water.

This plant may bloom in Summer to early Fall depending on where you live. The flowers start blooming late May around here but after June they start tapering off! This primrose is very “showy” in early to mid June.  This plant enjoys sun or partial shade.  My primroses are in full sun.

The plant will grow about 12 inches high and will spread. The leaves will stay green even when the flowers die so primroses make a good border and a good ground cover. The Showy Pink Primrose has quite the reputation for being invasive since it will spread via its roots and it will re-seed. Be careful where you plant it!  While the word invasive may scare you away, please note that the strays are easy to pull out of the ground. I would consider putting it somewhere that it can be contained.

Keep in mind that this company doesn’t sell on-line. Eden Brother’s website sells the pink, yellow and white evening primrose seeds. On cool days, the flowers open up even during the day.  On warmer days, the flowers will open more in the evening which is how it got the “evening primrose” name.

Hope you enjoy the flowers as much as I do.
