Bloom Varieties

Edible Blooms

I love to look at flowers, but I typically don’t eat them.   I do like flowers as garnishes and floating in a cocktail! If you are interested, there are quite a few flowers that are edible.

Here is a list of some of the edible ones: Bee Balm, Calendula, Coneflowers, Dahlia, Feverfew, Hollyhock, Hyssop, Lavendar, Marigold, Nasturtium, Pansy, Snapdragon, Sunflower, Sweet Allyssum, Sweet William, Violas and Zinnias.

I find that Botanical Interests and Burpee have the best flower seed selections.  Also, I just received a seed catalog from John Scheepers Kitchen Garden Seeds which also has a nice selection of flowers.

If you want a mix packet of edible flowers, then check out Edible Beauties Flower Mix from Botanical Interests which includes:  Arugula, Bachelor’s Button, Basil, Borage, Calendula, Chives, Fennel, Johnny Jump Up/Viola, Nasturtium, Radish and Signet Marigold.  This is good to know when your radishes and arugula bolt with the summer heat, you can eat the flowers!

Folks add edible flowers to salads, soups, herb butter, beverages, cocktails and cooked dishes.  Don’t forget that many of the edible flowers also attract pollinators!  Bonus!

You should always do some research before eating flowers because some  are poisonous. Yikes!
