I have been successfully growing Dutch Yellow Shallots in the spring. This year I am trying to master growing them in the fall.
Features:
1) Since shallots grow in clusters, you can bank on getting between 6 and 10 shallots for every bulb planted. I typically get at least seven shallots.
2) Dutch Yellow Shallots have a mild and sweet onion flavor.
3) While I grew my shallots in an elevated raised bed in a fenced in area, these shallots are actually deer resistant.
4) Above ground, the greens will reach up to 16 inches.
5) While this variety is hardy in zones 3 through 9, it is hard to find in the fall so I saved some from this past summer.
6) They mature in mid summer which is typically July for me.
7) While I hear that Dutch Yellow Shallots may bolt if planted in the fall, they are suppose to be resistant to bolting. I will have more to report on this next summer.
8) This type of shallot stores well for approximately a year in a cool and dark place.
