Once I determined that I was a seed addict, I invested in T5 grow lights. They are great for growing your own veggies, herbs, fruit and blooms from seeds. They are pricey but make a world of difference. My seedlings grow up big and strong, not lanky like before. I finally switched from fluorescent tubes to LED tubes this year. They are called Led Conversion Tubes by SunBlaster.
In 2014, I used under cabinet lights that I got on sale just to see if I would enjoy growing plants from seed – I got hooked. In 2017, I upgraded and purchased two Agrobrite T5 light fixtures from Amazon based on a recommendation from my gardening buddy, Sheri. After a successful growing season, I bought two more!
Each of my fixtures holds four T5 6400 K tubes that are 2 feet long. There are other options out there such as 2ft or 4ft long fixtures that hold 2, 4, 6, 8 or 12 T5 tubes. If you buy the T5 lights/tubes on Amazon, make sure you read the reviews. Some companies package the lights well and some don’t.
I connected the light fixtures to the shelves with really long tie wraps. While some people rely on duct tape to fix everything, I like tie wraps! The light fixture should be raised as the plants grow so the light is a few inches above the tallest plant – you don’t want to burn them!
