Seed Ideas for Ornamental Kale and Cabbage

There are some seed choices if you want to grow your own ornamental kale and cabbage.  I found the best choices from Johnny’s Selected Seeds.  The following choices grow between 2 and 3 feet tall.  They take between 90 and 110 days to mature.  Don’t forget that they like to mature in the fall.  If you missed my post on growing ornamental kale and cabbage, just click on the link.

First of all, there is the Crane series.  The ornamental blooms in this series are hybrids.    These three have rounded leaves that look like pretty cabbages.  Crane Pink has green outer leaves with bright pink centers, Crane White has green outer leaves with creamy veins and cream/white centers with a blush of pink and Crane Red has dark green leaves with purple veins and a plum reddish center.  All three are very pretty.

The Crane series has two feather leaf varieties that look like fancy kale. . . Crane Feather King White has pink centers surrounded by white and the outer leaves are green.  Crane Feather Queen Red has green leaves with bright pink/magenta centers.

The Sunrise and Sunset choices are open pollinated and look like a lovely cabbage.  Sunrise has green outer leaves with creamy white centers with a blush of pink.  Sunset has green outer leaves with reddish pink centers.

If you search for seeds on the different online seed sites, you may have to search under “ornamental” or “flowering” for the 1st word and “kale” or “cabbage” for the 2nd word.
