I recently went to Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh and checked out their gardens of veggies and fruit. First of all, take a look at the large grape arbor above. It’s very impressive! I’m hoping it inspires us to start growing grapes next Spring. Since grapes are perennials, I need to figure out where their forever home will be. Once I figure out the location, I plan on growing the seedless varieties.
In the vegetable area, there are several raised beds. Take a look at the tomato plants that are growing up the homemade trellis and the pretty marigolds.
In the following raised bed, there are pepper plants and brightly colored Swiss chard.
Look at the gem underneath the pepper plants! It looks like bibb lettuce to me.
In the next bed, there is corn and fava beans growing side by side.
This is the view on the way out of the veggie gardens. . .
Check out my blog for other Phipps Conservatory articles. I already wrote one titled “Lovely Orchids”. I still have to write a few more so stay tuned.
