While most types of tomatoes can be grown in a bush or pole format and in an array of color options, you need to consider what types of tomatoes you want to grow. Here are the types:
Cherry Tomatoes: These round tomatoes weigh between 1/4 to 2 oz. They are bite sized and are juicy.
Grape Tomatoes: These tomatoes are oblong and also weigh between 1/4 and 2 oz. Typically the skin is thicker and they are less juicy than cherry tomatoes.
While you can roast or grill cherry and grape tomatoes, they usually are eaten fresh in the garden or in the house!
Saladette or Cocktail Tomatoes:  These tomatoes weigh between 2 and 4 oz. These tomatoes are known as salad tomatoes.
Paste or Roma Tomatoes: These tomatoes are oblong, meatier and less juicy so they are great for canning, sauces, salsa and dehydrating. Also paste tomatoes typically have less seeds.
Slicing Tomatoes:Â They are known for being round and juicy and range between 4 and 12 oz.
Beefsteak Tomatoes:Â Â These are the biggest and juiciest tomatoes and weigh between 12 and 16 oz.
Most folks use slicing and beefsteak tomatoes for sandwiches.
