Sow and Grow Lemongrass

Sow and Grow Lemongrass

I like to grow my lemongrass in the herb garden or as a backdrop to some other ornamental plant in a container/planter.

Indoor Sowing Tips:   1) Sow the seeds 1/4″ deep in seed trays under grow lights in late winter (about 3 month before your average last frost date).  2) In order to germinate, lemongrass seeds prefer a temperature around 70°F.  Based on this, start the seeds with a seed heat mat underneath the seed tray.  3) Once the lemongrass seedling is a few inches tall, I usually transplant into smaller pot in the grow room  4) Water the seeds and seedlings from below.  5) After hardening off the seedling that is at least 5 inches tall, I will transplant the lemongrass in late spring. 6) Lemongrass needs about 2 ft. to grow.  7) Lemongrass likes to grow in the sun.  7) Don’t forget to use your compost when transplanting.

Growing Tips:  8) Keep the lemongrass seedlings and plants moist but not soggy!  I use a drip system.

They are low maintenance to grow like parsley.
