I’ve been using mosquito netting that I bought from JoAnn Fabrics. What a difference this fabric has made in deterring the cabbage moths and ultimately the cabbage worm. I think I will finally have some fantastic brussels sprouts this year. I always try to keep out the cabbage moth and worm from the brassica family.
I previously used cicada netting which only lasts about one season. It tends to disintegrate if you use it for more than one season since it is made from thin plastic.
Since the mosquito netting is made out of polyester material (not plastic), it has lasted two seasons and is still going strong. We used 1/2 inch wide pvc pipes to form the hoop tunnel that is approximately 3 feet tall, Alan cut 4 pieces of 2×2 wood the length and width of the elevated raised bed to keep the material flush with the top of the elevated raised bed and then we used clips (that we purchased from the Dollar Tree) on the pvc pipes right above the wood to keep the material snug. There is no way a cabbage moth is getting in there!
