Well I got a surprise when I got back from Nags Head. It appears that my garden helper forgot to consistently water my annual flowers that are in containers – I was able to save most of them but two are looking not so good. As a peaceful compromise, my son (a.k.a my garden helper) got me two Mona Lavender Plectranthus flowers.  I have never seen this annual before. It sure is pretty.
Best Features:
1) Beautiful color – I haven’t noticed too many purple flowers. Of course, the color is why it is named Mona Lavender.
2) While each individual flower is rather tiny, they grow in clusters on a stem.
3) The dark green leaves of Mona Lavender are attractive too! With some light, the leaves will turn purple underneath.
4) This plant will reach 16 inches high and 3 feet wide if placed in the ground.
5) While I just got my plants in late summer, they should bloom from spring through fall.
6) Mona Lavender shines in part sun.
7) While its a bummer that this flower is an annual in my area, it is supposed to make a great houseplant. I am going to give it a try once the temperature take a nose dive. Keep in mind it is a perennial only in zones 9 and 10.
8) You can grow more Mona Lavenders by cutting stems and rooting them in water!
