For years, I’ve been growing the type of poblano pepper that you see in most seed catalogs. Last year I started growing Gigantea Poblano Peppers too.
Features:
1) This variety will typically grow to 4 inches long and about 2 1/2 inches wide at the top and then slender down to a point.
2) Gigantea Poblano Peppers will start out dark green-black and turn red. I typically pick my poblanos at the green stage for chile rellenos.
3) Don’t worry if they turn red, you can dry/dehydrate them and make sauce. When they are dried, their name changes from poblano to ancho.
4) The plants can reach 2 feet tall.
5) Gigantea Poblanos are mildy hot at 1,000 to 3,000 Scoville heat units.
6) This variety has a smoky sweet flavor.
