While I first started growing Elephant Garlic in 2019, it has been a staple in my garlic bed ever since.
Features:
1) The bulbs are larger than most garlic. They grow to at least 4 inches wide and 3 inches long. In fact, the seed companies suggest spacing the cloves about 6 inches apart when sowing. For most other garlic, it is suggested to space them only 4 inches apart.
2) Since Elephant Garlic cloves are larger, you will probably get six or less cloves in each bulb!
3) If you don’t like the stronger flavor of some garlic varieties, then this variety is a must to try. It has a mild flavor that is closer to a leek.
4) While the papery skin of an Elephant Garlic Bulb is white, the cloves are wrapped in tan.
5) Elephant Garlic bulbs are wonderful roasted whole!
