If you never composted, here is the first thing you need to get you started. . . you should build or purchase a compost bin. While some folks like a compost tumbler, I purchased two stationary compost bins. I previously tried a tumbler, but I found it hard to turn. Once I switched to the bin, I figured out I don’t have to turn it in order to be successful with composting.
Since I am not running a farm, I wanted something smaller so I purchased two compost bins from Keter on Amazon.
Pros:
The size is 28.5 x 27.5 x 29 inches.
It has a lid to keep out the critters.
It is made from recycled plastic – always nice to find creative products that use recycled plastic!
The top has drainage holes for rain and snow.
The bottom front has a door that slides up so you can easily scoop out the compost.
Cons:
This con is my fault – One day I didn’t have the lid down all the way and we got high winds. Since the lid was not snapped and secure, the plastic hinges broke. We fixed it with tie wraps – my husband loves duct tape and tie wraps!
I thought the bottom was rather flimsy. Instead, you can just set the compost bin right on a flat surface such as the ground, concrete, stone, etc.
One of my of my other gadgets for the outdoor garden is the Trellis Tunnel that we previously installed.
