Back in August, our family went to Phipps Conservatory to see the Butterfly Forest which is an ongoing live exhibit all summer. In one room you can see butterflies making their grand entrance and flying about.
In case you don’t remember the life cycle of a butterfly consists of the following first there is an egg, then the caterpillar, then there is a pupa in a chrysalis (see picture below) and then there is a beautiful butterfly. Pupa just means that the caterpillar is being transformed into a butterfly.   The chrysalis is the hard case surrounding butterfly while it turns into an adult.  That’s it for my science lesson!
In a future blog, we will be talking about what flowers attract butterflies. Also, you can do a search for another post that I did on the Vegetable and Fruit Gardens at Phipps.
