If you like romaine lettuce, your go to variety should be Parris Island Cos. While I purchased these seeds from Botanical Interests, other seed companies offer this variety too.
The following is what I like about this variety: 1) Parris Island is easy to grow, 2) the leaves are nice and crisp, 3) this variety produces tight heads that grow up to 12 inches tall, 4) it is slower to bolt compared to some lettuce varieties, and 5) it is an heirloom variety.
Parris Island Cos germinates best between 60 and 70 °F. I typically start my seedlings indoors and transplant them in the spring. I would suggest waiting until late summer to transplant more.
