Types of Radishes

Types of Radishes

There are two types of radishes:

Spring Radishes:  These radishes are typically smaller in size and grow quickly.  They can be round or oblong.  Their flavor can be mild or spicy.  You can sow them in the spring or the fall.  Some examples include Easter Egg and French Breakfast.

Winter Radishes:  These radishes are typically longer, bigger and/or fatter and take longer to mature.  They can be round or long and their flavor can be mild or spicy.  You can grow them mid to late summer for a fall harvest.  They store better than spring radishes.  Some examples include black radish, watermelon radish and daikons.

Spring and Winter Radishes are Root vegetables and member of the Brassica Family.
