While yesterday’s topic was seed ideas for shelling peas, it’s time to think about what kind of snap peas you want to grow. Often you will see snap peas called sugar snaps. You know sugar snap peas are going to have sweet pods and peas if they have sugar in their name!

If you want a pop of color, then start your seed search with these choices:
Sugar Magnolia or Sugar Magnolia Tendril – this one has purple flowers and pods and lots of edible tendrils. Be ready with your trellis!
Magnolia Blossom Tendril – this variety produces purple flowers, green pods and lots of edible tendrils.
Spring Blush – this variety has green pods with a blush of purple:

Snap Pea – this one need a more original name!
Sugar Snap – this was an All-America Selections award winner and vines up 8 feet tall so you better be ready with a trellis.
Sugar Daddy – this one is known for stringless pods and shorter vines (less than 3 feet).
Cascadia – this one vines to about 3 feet.
Sweet Gem – this one vines to a little over 4 feet.
Sugar Ann and Sugar Bon – these varieties only vines up to 2 feet.
