There are more choices for Arugula than you would think! Don’t forget that arugula is a great candidate for your spring and fall garden and for hydroponics.
Seed Ideas:
Botanical Interests has some nice choices:
Rocket – when you are shopping for arugula at the grocery store, this is the variety that you will probably see. This is my favorite to grow!
Astro – this one has wider leaves and is slow to bolt.
Rocky Wild Rocket – this variety has thin, lobed leaves, grows in rosette form and will reach up to 10 inches. Also, it is said to have a stronger flavor. This one is a perennial in Zones 6 through 10.
Wild Rocket – this variety looks similar to the Rocky Wild Rocket but grow up to 24 inches tall. Also, this one is a perennial.
High Mowing Seeds has some additional choices such as:
Esmee – this one tastes more nutty than spicy.
Bellezia – this variety stores well
Uber – this variety has smaller, serrated leaves.
The next two ideas come from Rare Seeds:
Red Dragon – the veins are red.
Wasabi – this variety tastes like wasabi.
While Renee’s Garden also carries wasabi arugula, they also have the following:
Italian Arugula – This one look like Rocket Arugula.
Runway Arugula – this one is deeply lobbed and is less pungent!
The last time we chatted about vegetable seed ideas, I shared some ideas for artichokes.
