Since I love a pop of pink in the garden, Pow Wow Wild Berry Coneflowers fit the bill. The formal name for coneflowers is Echinacea. While I bought my plants from a local nursery, you can find seeds for Pow Wow Coneflowers on the Park Seed website. If I can’t find seeds for a certain flower, this is my go to site even though the seeds are more expensive.
Features:
- They are drought tolerant and deer resistant – a double bonus!
- Coneflowers are perennials (in zones 3 -9) so they keep coming back each year!
- Pow Wow Coneflowers bloom from early summer to early fall. If you want more blooms during the growing season, just trim the stems of the spent blooms.

- Butterflies like the nectar.
- Since birds (especially finches) like the seeds over the winter, don’t trim the flowers in the fall.
- While I love the wildberry color, there are Pow Wows that have white flowers too!
- You can divide the plant to get more plants in early spring or late fall.
- They are compact and reach under two feet tall and 1 1/2 feet wide.
The last flower that I highlighted were Signet Marigolds.
