The main reason that I grow Poblano Peppers is that I love chile rellenos or stuffed poblanos.
Features:
1) Poblanos will typically grow to about 6 inches long. The tops will be about 2 inches wide and will form a point on the bottom.
2) They will start out green and turn red. I typically pick my poblanos at the green stage for chile rellenos.
3) Don’t worry if they turn red, you can dry/dehydrate them and make sauce. When they are dried, their name changes from poblano to ancho.
4) The plants can reach 3 feet tall.
5) Poblanos are mildy hot at 1,000 to 2,000 Scoville heat units.
6) While these peppers are not as productive for me in Pittsburgh compared to my other hot peppers, they always have a spot in my garden!
7) Poblano and Anaheim Peppers have thick skins so it is helpful to char the skins before eating them fresh.
