I love the fall flowers on the Pineapple Sage plant.
1) The flowers are very bright red which attracts hummingbirds and butterflies.
2) The flowers grow in an unusual manner. First, they start out drooping downward and then start to perk up and grow toward the sky.
3) Don’t forget that the flowers and the leaves are edible.
4) The reason they call this plant “Pineapple” sage is because the leaves have a slight taste of pineapple.
5) Most folks prefer this herb fresh in tea, cocktails and fruit salad.
6) If you cut off a tender stem, you can put it in water to root and then transplant in a pot of soil.
7) This plant needs room to grow as it can get up to 4 feet tall and wide.
8) While this plant is a perennial in warm weather areas, it is an annual in Pittsburgh just like the Cinnamon Basil that I grow.
