The Crowned Orbweaver Spider has some nicknames such as garden spider, pumpkin spider, orangie and cross spider.. Of course, I wouldn’t have been able to identify the spider with my app called Picture Insect.
Features:  This type of spider has the colors of brown, black and white. The smaller and younger ones are darker as in the photo and the adult females are lighter.
Food:Â This spider likes insects like beetles, moths, mosquitos.
Eggs:Â Â Typically, the female Crowned Orbweaver will deposit between 300 and 900 eggs in late September in a yellow round cocoon under the bark of dead trees.
Webs:  This spider likes to spin its web on buildings or structures with exterior lighting. This one picked my gazebo to spin its web.
Location:Â Â While the Crowned Orbweaver may have originated in Europe, it loves living in Pennsylvania, New England, Canada, Washington and Oregon.
Its been a while since we talked about little garden pests. Last fall we talked about the Land Snail.
