Bright Lights Swiss Chard

Pink Bright Lights Swiss Chard

This Bright Lights Swiss Chard seed packet adds a lot of color to the garden.  I purchased the Bright Lights from Botanical Interests.  While the seeds are not color coded, you will get a nice surprise of color.  This packet includes chard with gold, orange, pink, yellow, crimson and lavender stems and veins.  You will also notice different colored leaves.  This definitely falls into the category of a ornamental and edible plant.  Unlike most lettuce that gets bitter in the heat, this chard won’t.  Unlike some greens that will bolt in the heat, this chard won’t.  Does it sound to good to be true!

I chop up the leaves and the stems for my salad to add some crunch and color.

While the seed packet recommends that you don’t start the seeds indoors, I started them in the spring and transplanted them in April under cover.  They are growing like crazy!

I am going to start growing some more for the fall because I need to check out the other available colors – of course!

The yellow one starts out bright yellow but then turns pale as the leaf matures. . .
