Baker Creek Catalog – Fruit

Fruit Seeds from Baker Creek

You should see some of the fruit choices in the Baker Creek’s catalog:

Solanum Berries – the trick with these berries is that you need to make sure that they are fully ripe without any green so you don’t get sick! I’m thinking about growing the Chichiquelite Huckleberry seed which bears sweet purple berries that can be eaten fresh or cooked.

South American Solanum Fruit – these fruits need a headstart indoors like tomatoes and peppers. The different varieties have totally different flavors such as cherry/tomato, orange, melon/pear, melon and pineapple.

Husk Berries – these berries grow like smaller tomatillos with paper husks on the outside. Baker Creek offers three types.

Melons – The apple melon caught my eye since you can fit it in your hand and eat the skin and the flesh. This one is commonly found in Paraguay and Belize. Who knew that there were Banana melons, Serpent Melons and Wax Melons. The Valencia Winter Melon stores for approximately 4 months during the winter. The Prescott Fond Blanc Melon comes from France while the Kajari Melon comes from India.
